About the Artist

Hyeyeon Im (b.1993, South Korea) is a contemporary visual artist whose artwork portrays a palette displaying a range of surface qualities – something that she is captivated by the experimental aspect of. The way that the same paint is able to form a variety of textures, colours and layers, based on the gesture of strokes, is something she finds fascinating and therefore uses as a means to convey emotions, feelings and memories, particularly of her own personal experiences. Hyeyeon lives and works in Seoul, South Korea.

About the Artwork

When I see the sunset, the moon floating between apartments or a boat floating on the blue sea, I get inspiration of colour and form in that moment. And I began to draw on the paper to reference that moment and then later cut it out of drawing book. I use the process of cutting and rearranging to create a collage. I tried for the first time, an. Acrylic collage method panting. Acrylic board collage is a transparent and lightweight material. There are few restrictions on placing multiple layers on top of each other, and the layers present overlapping transparent colours. I use a process of different mixing mediums into my paint which give my paintings a more rhythmic movement and widened the colour scheme in a very visible way.
