Shangyu Cai (b.1999, China) is a visual artist standing amidst the rustling leaves and towering trunks. Shangyu engages in a silent dialogue with nature, discerning an invisible thread that weaves the myriad elements of the forest to her very senses. This profound interconnectedness finds its most tangible manifestation in trees. Their resilient energy, distinctive growth patterns, and innate uniqueness hold Shangyu in constant fascination, symbolising the enduring link between humanity and nature. Tree branches conventionally perceived as brown, are transformed in her canvases to radiate vibrant shades of green, blue, yellow, and more - each a testament to nature's response to light. The shapes and marks Shangyu crafts with her brush are reflections of her emotions and sentiments, capturing her innate desire for growth and connection.
