Biography

Gemma Kauffman is a painter working with atmospheric landscapes that exist between memory and observation. Her work begins with the natural world — plants, light, shifting colour — and evolves through rhythm, texture, and the emotional resonance of place. Moving between figuration and abstraction, she explores colour as a living language, balancing harmony and contrast through layered, intuitive compositions. Influenced by cinema, music, textiles, and a synesthetic sensitivity to colour, her paintings combine gesture, pattern, and repetition to create immersive visual spaces that invite emotional and sensory connection.
