Biography

Alysza Lam (b. 1995, Hong Kong) combines figurative, abstract and symbolic elements, painting as an abstract space that embody the emotional landscape of interior, meta-geographically, meta-psychologically. A space between the external and internal worlds. Her work conveys the total sum movements of her outer and inner gazes. Navigating between two cultural identities and stream of consciousness, reflecting on her position status and sense of in-betweenness.

Alysza sees painting as a medium of the preconscious, grounding & contextualising her psychoanalytic perspective and reveal the unconscious in our psyches.

Painting is a form of embodiment, of the warmth and the struggle, intimacy and alienation. Sometimes through disembodiment and a state of becoming—The return of the body in a bodiless world, when the world has become mere images of the world.
