About the Artist
Alisha Sofia (b. 1987, USA) focuses on the female form as both creator and artifact of visual identity. Her subjects, partially or completely nude, are surrounded by a rich symbolic lexicon of food, plants, and animals. Refusing objectification, they are calmly defiant: their power, strength, and intimate detail command engagement. Sofia’s technical strength and command of her materials allows the subtleties of each personality to emerge from her paintings. She attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, completing her degree at Art Center College of Design in 2009. Sofia currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
About the Artwork
Reflection I & II were inspired by my personal (and I’m sure everyones) struggle with identity and commitment to self work. They are two paintings shown side by side as compliments of each other. It is a depiction of the everlasting odyssey and evolution of oneself. We are always discovering new traits that will continue to encompass who we are. There will always be introspection and contemplation of the self, but staying authentic keeps us resilient through it all.
