Biography

Teodora Nitsolova is Bulgarian-born, London/Glasgow based artist with a Bachelor Degree in Stage Design and a Winner of (the) New Art School Contemporary Art Practices Mentoring Programme Award, Scotland, UK, 2021. She currently lives in London finishing her last year of her MFA at the Slade School of Fine Arts Painting program. Teodoras practice arises from a need to find sense living in apocalyptic times, feeling of displacement, atomic existence and absence of communities. Through her work she investigates the invisible, the ineffable, the uncertain, the hidden and the elusive. When creating she aims to activate idiosyncratic, micro moments of world destroying and world making. Allowing herself to be led by intuition she aims to produce holistic artifacts that can not be bound to a defined historical timeline or rationality. In a body of work she searches for a specific alignment between fluidity, question and juxtaposition of symbols by “dressing up” the walls with assemblages of non-stretched canvases, creating temporal murals and interrogating the architectonics of the painting with her hand forged black steel talismans and structures.
Mindful with her painting technique (mixing mediums such as acrylic paint,
pigment, marble dust, charcoal, soft pastel and pencil to reveal and hide
figuration), she crosses the borders of the stretched canvas to allow the space to become the painting.
