Biography
Sophie Smorczewski is a London-based artist whose paintings immortalise fleeting moments of fragility in the garden. She captures the bittersweet beauty of memory where the lushness of living a moment is combined with a quiet melancholy at its passing. Following a shift of debilitating illness, her pieces begin as quiet reflections on the kitchen table and hold an intimacy that speaks to a slower time. Smorczewski graduated from Manchester School of Art in 2021 where she was awarded the Manchester Academy of Fine Art Prize. She is currently pursuing a MFA in painting at the Slade.
