About the Artist

Josefina Ayllón (b.1973, Argentina) is an expressionist self-taught painter whose artworks depict the struggle between fictional portraiture and the physicality of paint. She not interested in feigning the reality, using "tricks" like perspective. It is the reality of the painting itself as a bi-dimensional object that Josefina is interested in. Colour, texture, gesture are fundamental elements in her work, mainly using thick oil paint to express her mark making. Josefina is deeply attracted to paintings where the presence of the artist is tangible. Lives and works in Rome, Italy.
