About the Artist
Ellie Walker. 1995, recently graduated with an MA in Fine Art from City & Guilds of London Art School. Ellies' practice is rooted in emotional depth and guided by curiosity, unfolding through drawing and material experimentation. She embraces' being in the discomfort of uncertainty, allowing each work to evolve through cycles of layering, failure, and re-emergence. Drawing is her way into the work, an intuitive process that quiets external noise and internal dialogue. She respond instinctively to mark-making, engaging in a tactile conversation between shape, line, and colour. Often scraping back or erase previous marks, revealing earlier layers and playing with presence and absence. This rhythm of construction and erasure holds the work in a state of tension, open to discovery and resistant to resolution. Painting, for Ellie, is both cathartic and rigorous. By confronting the unpredictability of the process, she navigates emotional landscapes, transforming sensations of anxiety and overstimulation into something material. When a painting stalls, she deliberately takes risks through bold gestures, ambiguous forms, or obliteration, disrupting what’s known to access new, unexpected routes. Ultimately, her work is an introspective investigation of the unknown, they are psychological terrains that reflect evolving emotional states. These pieces invite a wide spectrum of responses, mirroring the vulnerability and openness of their making.
