About the Artist
Chloe S. Moncrieff (b.1976, UK) studied English for her BA degree after gaining her diploma in art at Winchester School of Art. She continued her love of painting and drawing while working as a writer to earn a living for two decades in London. While on maternity leave from her publication, she completed three months drawing at the Royal Drawing School and in 2022-23 got onto the Turps Banana Art School correspondence course for post graduate artists. She now works as an artist fulltime, living in Hants with two young children. This September, she will take on the artist in residence role in Cel del Nord in Catalonia. Her paintings are rhythmical visualisations, depicting the sensitive relationship between humanity and the land. Using vibrant colour and fluid brushwork, she explores the earth's connectivity with much of the art having allegorical nuances. Forces are omnipresent; the wind, moons, mountains, trees are recurring tropes. To help tell her stories, she uses Celtic mythology, as well as literature as a subtext. While her work is fantastical and escapist, it equally reflects her joy for the literal land she lives in. The doves, mushrooms, fleshy foliage all exist in the woods she's surrounded in in rural Hampshire.
