About the Artist

Amelia Badenoch (b.1992, UK) is a multidisciplinary artist whose approach to painting is guided by her emotive intuition of recognising grief in its entirety as well as exploring the true meaning of existence. At the very heart of Amelia's work, she visualizes and meditates on dreams and nightmares. Recognising these experiences empowers her to have a continuous visceral reaction to her paintings. Meditation is a large part of Amelia's maternal Indian heritage and is something she has practiced since she was a child. This tool has helped ground and envision these pictorial ‘dreamscapes’ that do not exist in the natural world. Amelia lives and works in London, UK.

About the Artwork

Getting High on a Blue Champagne Sea is a representation of being metaphorically ‘frozen’. I often find myself in this state during the initial phases of falling asleep. Otherwise known as sleep paralysis. The experience itself is quite unpleasant, with my clenched fists and ringing in my ears- however the moments of diving in and out of the darkness gives me almost an outer body experience and it is something I am now consciously aware of and can almost control and bring myself back into my physical state of being.
