Biography
Hannah's main interest lies in recording landscapes, observing the relationship between people and places and exploring the insignificance and fragility of man against the grandeur of nature. Hannah's tactile, 'map-like' paintings often utilise materials from the landscape itself, such as sand from the desert and coal-rich soil from the Welsh Coal Measures, whilst her yearn to be back in certain locations that summon feelings of awe and exhilaration carry through to her work in which she strives to capture the powerful qualities of nature. Working with materials and processes that lead to unpredictable outcomes in her paintings, Hannah alludes to the depths of the seas and farthest reaches of outer space. More recently, Hannah has began to work with a wider range of processes such as lino-print and batik, discovering ways to capture the subtle yet complex details of life and nature, such as afternoon light through a window and the rare stillness of a city at night.Â
Born in Bromley, London, Hannah moved to Plymouth in 2014 to study at university, graduating with a BA (hons) in Fine Art from Plymouth University in 2017. Following graduation, she completed a six month artist residency at Ocean Studios in Plymouth. Hannah is currently living and working in Bristol.
