About the Artist

Orsola Zane (b.1997, Italy) is a visual artist whose pictorial research centres around themes of detachment and depersonalisation. Her works present us with a formal paradox, isolating and portraying individuals that have renounced their own individuality to the collectivity of the party. By starting from pixelated low-resolution amateur videos of rave parties in the 80's and 90's, Orsola singles out subjects that appear aloof and uneasy, unnaturally disengaged from the collective they are a part of. She conveys an observation on the problematic nature of social relations and the incapability or refusal of communication. Orsola lives and works in Venice, Italy.
