About the Artist
Maayan Weisstub (b.1992, Canada/IsraeI) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice uses a diverse array of mediums, including kinetic sculpture, collage, drawing and video. The linking element is a desire to evoke thoughts and feelings across different topics, ranging from collective cultural injustice to personal and intimate psychological self-reflection. Maayan is primarily self-taught, a fact reflected in the scope and diversity of her work; eclectic and ranging from humour-inflected collages of human bodies to conceptual installations reflecting on time and mortality. This eclecticism, however, is tied together by recurring themes that run throughout their works. As an artist who believes in the social potential of creative expression, Maayan is interested in investigations of the emotionality and depth that can be found in the mundane. Ultimately, Maayan's art seeks to question the feelings and ideas that constitute what we call the human experience. The hope is to succeed challenge the banal with sensitivity, vulnerability, and audacity. Maayan lives and works in London, UK.
