About the Artist
Yiwei Xu (b.1990, China) is a London-based Chinese illustrator and artist. She is greatly interested in drawing from observation, memories, and poems. She is seeking the boundaries between the real world and the inner world, or maybe there are no such boundaries, and the entire experience of life is a dream. The mysterious and subtle atmosphere in the world fascinates her. Light and shadow reveal the gate of the hidden tunnel that connects realities and fantasies. She uses mixed media to create harmony and conflict that could express a bizarre yet realistic world through artworks. Yiwei lives and works in London, UK.
About the Artwork
“Trees are words, Light is writing distance.” By Adunis
The poem reminds me the experience of walking in a forest in a sunny day, and I was looking up to the sky, but the trees were too dense, the tree tops and leaves covered up the sky and the sunlight broke through the gaps of leaves and fall on my eyes. Shapes of the light spot changed and shifted while I was moving. I’d like to transfer this piece of ambiguous memory into artworks, and the outcome could be the experience behind the artwork, and could also have other answers depend on different feelings.
