About the Artist
Kat Giordano’s oil paintings delve into the societal issues surrounding passive implicit violence and the entrapment experienced within suburbia. With a focus on figuration and landscape as both a place and a non-place, Giordano illuminates manicured facades that define suburban spaces. Her examination of passive implicit violence prompts critical reassessment of established norms and power dynamics. Originally from a small town outside of Boston, Massachusetts, she now resides in London after completing her undergraduate studies at Endicott College and earning her master's degree at Goldsmith University.

About the Artwork
Nasty Women was created as direct commentary to when Donald Trump referred to Hilary Clinton as a Nasty Woman during one of their debates. Politics aside, the feeling I got from him belittling a woman with such crude, and offensive language inspired me to reclaim some form of agency from it. The model’s gaze is directly engaged with the viewer, seated comfortably, grotesquely eating Cheetos. The power dynamic in scale is directly meant to be “eating his words”. We cannot control how others treat us, but I wanted to manifest in this work to rise from derogatory language and not tolerate it.
