About the Artist
Rachel Isabel Mukendi (b.1993, UK) is a contemporary visual artist whose works are inspired by artists such as Lorna Simpson, Carrie Mae Weems and Arthur Jafa, who have all used pop culture, politics and exploration of blackness to create an incredible body of works. What is important for Rachel and her practice is reclaiming the autonomy of the black female body. Challenging a dialogue that is beyond the usual conversations. Considering how politicised every aspect of our being has been explored throughout history, art and pop culture. This series of collages Rachel has developed over the past three years has encouraged her to look deeper within herself and explore the multifaceted layers of being black and a woman. Rachel lives and works in London, UK.
