Biography

Stephanie Cheng (b.1995, USA) is a multi-disciplinary artist whose early immersions from different cultural narratives inform her ongoing practice in photography and filmmaking. Having been born in Virginia, USA, raised in Beijing and educated in New York, Stephanie’s work examines cross-cultural dimensions within feminism and race, as she continues to explore the evolving representation of female sexuality and power. Her visual narratives not only seek to reproduce reflections of the world we live in, but also imagine an entirely different one. Stephanie illustrates precarious familial relationships under the context of a traditional Chinese setting in A DAUGHTER (2017) and introduces a different kind of sexual awakening in LEOTARD (2018). Her short films have premiered at Lighthouse International Film Festival, San Diego Asian American Film Festival, Red Rock Film Festival and other acclaimed film festivals in the United States - most recently winning Best Foreign Language Short at Lady Filmmakers Festival. Stephanie lives and works in Hong Kong.
