Biography
Natasha Wright (b. 1987, New Zealand) is a New Zealand artist whose work merges figuration and abstraction, deliberately inviting ambiguity into its interpretation. The act of painting, and especially gesture, prompts her abstractions, excavating in this process fragments of figures. Her paintings explore emblematic representations of the female figure, both sensual and empowered, often cropping bodies as a way of highlighting moments of heightened sensation and drawing attention to a heightened reading of femininity. Natasha has a Masters of Fine Arts from The New York Studio School. She was awarded The New York Studio School Scholarship,The Jane Chace Carroll Merit Award and the LCU Award. She has exhibited in New Zealand, Australia and the United States. Her 2019 solo shows include John Davis Gallery (New York), Parlor Projects (New Zealand) and SFA Projects (New York). She lives and works in New York, USA.
