Joanna Turland (b.1993, UK) is a contemporary visual artist whose work is rooted in traditional practice, but takes a contemporary route into exploring the language of dreams, the unconscious and memories. Inspired by psychoanalytic theory, the artist uses painting as a way to externalise and communicate with herself in a way that is both raw and candid, reflecting glimpses into her internal world. A modern blend of Paula Rego's narration and Lucian Freud’s intense mark making, Joanna's practise revolves around creating relatable and honest works. Joanna lives and works in Suffolk, UK.
