J. Carino is a Riverside, California-based figurative artist working in a variety of mixed-media. Influenced by many decorative arts, his work explores ideas of queerness, identity, sensuality, and nature through richly patterned, colored, and layered figures and flora. His work depicts monumental nude, queer figures in landscapes that are both idyllic and tinged with danger. His work wrestles with ideas of traditional fertility and queer intimacy, and explore how the creation of our sense of self is connected with the natural world, and how for queer people, “natural” is often seen as “unnatural.” J. Carino lives and works in Riverside, California.
