Beth Cowey (b. 1996, UK) is a British artist whose practice, grounded in abstraction, reflects her interests in landscape, abstract photography and the painted surface. She often works from photographs she takes herself, to which she then responds through the act of painting, balancing between figuration and abstraction through her use of composition, colour, gesture and surface finish. Through this process her works create a personal, playful and unmediated painterly language, captured with her characteristically wide and primal brush-marks, deliberately exposing her gestures as a way of offering clarity and accessibility. Beth is based between Glasgow and Brussels.
