Biography
After years of working and travelling extensively with several distinguished
photographers, Baud set out to find his own artistic identity. After much
experimenting he has developed a unique and technical practice. The vast
majority of his work made shooting large format,10x8 paper negatives, creating images with a distinctive texture and colour palette. While Baud’s approach is born from the pursuit of specific aesthetic outcomes, it simultaneously serves as a deliberate push against the ‘immediate’ and ‘known’ inherent in digital image making. His practice not only embraces but actively encourages the unpredictable elements often produced by analogue practices. Perhaps because of his background in fashion and advertising Baud is fascinated by photography’s inherently complicated relationship with authenticity. His work frequently explores the area between fact and fiction, representation and imagination. Baud has exhibited in the UK and abroad, notably twice in the National Portrait
Gallery for the Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize in ’17 and ’18, Peckham 24 in ’18 and ’19, The Royal Academy of Arts in ’22 and Photo London in ’24.
Baud has collaborated with numerous fashion brands including: JW Anderson, Burberry, Dries Van Noten, Chanel, Erdem and Paul Smith and has been featured in and or commissioned by international publications including *Wallpaper, British Journal of Photography, i-D, Wall street Journal and Financial Times. A native Londoner, Baud continues to live and work in London.
