Biography

Amalia Mourad (b.1992, USA) primarily focuses on the figure, issues of gender, emotion, and the human experience through her practice. Amalia's paintings are mostly unplanned, she paints, removes, and repaints the people and animals until they feel right for the scene. Similar to acting, she uses instinct and emotion to guide the story. This allows her to access deeper levels of her own underlying conflicts and motives, and lets the outcome of the painting be more open ended. Amalia lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
