Biography

Greek painter Alexandros Bourikas (b. 1991, Greece) draws inspiration from various sources spreading from Japanese ‘Shunga’ illustrations, classical painting to contemporary culture. In Bourikas’ works a bouquet of expressive hand gestures, playful noses and cautious looks compose an atmosphere that is eerie, but playful. In the artists’s works characters share secrets, eat, scheme against one another, discuss, touch, squeeze each other’s hands, share intimate moments and steal from each other. There is a feeling that something has or is just about to take place; a final conflict or climax, yet the main event remains unrevealed creating open ended narratives where anything can happen. Alexandros lives and works in Athens, Greece.
